As of writing this, I have been an employee in an unnamed thrift shop for nearly a year. My job is simple: I’m the guy who stands in the donation area and ushers cars through, making sure they deposit all of their items in the right place and that they don’t leave us any broken furniture or used toothpaste.
Over the past year, I have borne witness to the strange, the infuriating, and the downright absurd. I’ve seen humanity, not at its very worst, but at its disappointing average. And now, dear reader, I’m going to share my experiences with you. This blog exists because it’s important for the world to know about the kinda shit service workers have to deal with on a daily basis, but also because I thought it would be funny. I’ll probably also write about some other stuff at some point, because I only have so many work-related stories to tell.
To all my fellow service workers: I hope my stories bring you some measure of catharsis. This blog is for you.
